Well here we go on another Pygmy solo kayak build. This time a Pinguino 145. It's one of Pygmy's most popular boats. It's stable, light, capable of sea touring, and only 14.5'. Here's another nice article about the Pinguino.
The picture below is from the Pygmy website
(Pygmy Boats owns the copyright to this image and I make no claim to the image. It's here under fair use policy but will be happily removed if Pygmy requests it to be removed).
A friend of ours has wanted me to build one for her for some time and I finally think I can start to work on it. It should be a great boat for her. She's an active woman in her early 70's. The massive stability of the Pinguino, the larger cockpit, the relatively low weight, and being only 14.5' should work well for her.
I'll blog about it here, but I'll also be adding some better pictures to the "Rogue Manual" on how to build one without wires.
This boat will NOT have any wire sewing and will be taped instead. It will NOT have a billion holes all over it. It will look gorgeous!
Just picked up the kit and all of the other bits and such that help you to make one from the Pygmy store in Port Townsend, WA, USA. This weekend is the annual Wooden Boat Festival and it's a great time to visit PT.
That's it for now. But I should be able to start building it within a week or so as soon as I clean out my garage and get the building table set up.
Cheers!

ReplyDeleteHello and a huge Thank you. I just started my Pinguino 145 and was extremely glad to read all the info you put into the rogue manual. I built a strip canoe years ago but this is my first plywood craft. The Pinguino seemed to be exactly what I wanted. Was very worth it to drive up to Pygmy and test paddle the boats. Thank you for all your work in sharing this valuable resource and I look forward to seeing your Pinguino take shape as I am building mine.
ReplyDeleteRegards from Portland
Glad you found my blog! Looks like we'll be building these boats at the same time so feel free to share pictures of your build too.
